As we head into And Just Like That… season three, it feels as though the Sex And The City reboot is about to hit its stride.
Episode one hit the nostalgic tropes we all loved about the original series; a man of the week, Carrie unpacking her relationship woes at her laptop and friends catching up over cocktails. But, they all looked a little different as the show leaned into its new era.
The man of the week was a woman, a virgin nun, in fact, that Miranda struggled to shake. Carrie’s relationship woes were the result of teenage children that aren’t her own. And, the gossiping was shared over phony negronis, not cosmos, at a LGBTQI hotspot.
One element seemed to remain completely unchanged and that was the disappointing men. Reminding us all: the dating game really doesn’t change with age.

Oh, Men
The season picks up with Carrie lamenting over the relationship-limbo Aiden has left her in by hitting pause on their romance to spend a few years with his kids. We can’t argue with putting your kids first, but asking the woman you love to wait idly by as you exchange blank postcards? It’s a no from us.
Just when we thought it couldn’t get worse, Aiden breaks his separation of silence to essentially get himself off. Gross. And we’re not talking about the one-sided phone sex (which was ick enough) but the sheer self-involvement and self-satisfying behaviour. A complete turn off.
Aiden, a 50-something man, surely should behave better by now, no? Clearly Carrie is thinking (somewhat) the same as she closes out the episode at her laptop.
“The woman wondered what she had gotten herself into,” she muses and she types. Honestly, same.

Then, there’s Seema. Powerhouse business woman with a packed schedule and bad-ass attitude who’s willing to stay up late and make time for her man. He’s seemingly incapable of doing the same, a.k.a. the bare minimum of just one video call in the space of a week.
Instead Seema is left to fall asleep, cigarette in hand, and set her bed and hair alight like some fiery foreshadowing for her latest flame.
When he does make it to town, the trip is, to no surprise, all about him. Sigh.
The real estate broker knows her worth and decides she’s going to need to look for a new man. But hey, at least she’s got a cute new hairstyle now.

The Miranda Renaissance
Miranda’s latest dating foray didn’t fare much better, but it certainly did gift SATC-lovers the giggle-yet-cringe worthy dating story we so adored from each episode of the original.
Maybe Miranda’s character will finally get the justice (storylines) she deserves this season.
You can stream every epsiode of And Just Like That… season one, two and three (as they drop weekly) on HBO Max.
