Pack your bags and prepare to have your heartstrings well and truly tugged, it’s time to head to Barry’s Bay for Every Year After.
Based on the novel, Every Summer After, by Carley Fortune which has become a BookTok and Bookstagram sensation as well as a personal favourite of mine, the novel is a coming of age love story set over six summers and twelve years.
At the centre of the story is Persephone Fraser, Percy for short, a young girl whose parents buy a summer house in the idyllic Canadian town of Barry’s Bay, where she befriends the brothers who live next door, Charlie and Sam Florek.

It’s younger brother Sam, who quickly becomes Percy’s closest friend. As the summers pass and the teens grow up they inevitably fall in love. However, as the book jumps between the six summers in which they fell in love and the modern day, twelve years later, we learn that one horrible mistake tore the couple – who are clearly meant to be together – apart.
Drawn back together in the current day, one question remains: can they overcome what destroyed their relationship a decade ago and get their second chance?
The cast bringing Barry’s Bay to life include Sadie Soverall (Saltburn) as lead Percy Fraser and Matt Cornett (High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) as Sam Florek, with Michael Bradway (Chicago Fire) as Sam’s older brother Charlie, Aurora Perrineau (Kaos) as Percy’s friend Chantal, Abigail Cowen (Fate: The Winx Saga) as Delilah, Joseph Chiu (Fear Street: Prom Queen) as Jordie, and Elisha Cuthbert (Happy Endings) as Sam and Charlie’s mother, Sue Florek.
Considering the recent success Prime Video has had with book adaptations such as Off Campus, the My Fault series, The Summer I Turned Pretty, just to name a few, we expect this latest adaptation to have audiences in a chokehold.
