If, like us, you’re chronically online, you may have noticed Penn Badgley and Meghann Fahy are seemingly feuding. Both actors have been posting pointed videos about one another and even beefing in the comments section of posts.
But, it’s not what it looks like. Or maybe it is, because no publicist would ever let their A-list client behave as such.
Penn and Meghann’s online antics are a publicity stunt (and a delightful one at that) for their new film, You Deserve Each Other.
The back and forth banter kicked off with a clip from Penn on a street stoop with the caption: “Butterfly effect is crazy because if I’d never met Meghann Fahy on the set of Gossip Girl my life would be exactly the same.”

Of course, he’s throwing shade at Meghann’s brief stint in the hit show’s third season.
Following this, Penn took aim at his new co-stars’ most recent show, Sirens.
“Ok, so, I don’t usually do this,” he said in another video, “but my wife and I just finished Sirens. Want to give her her flowers. Now obviously there’s Julianne [Moore], there’s Kevin [Bacon], there’s Milly [Alcock], but this Meghann Fahy? This newcomer? This, like, refreshing, gawky beauty? Love it. Love you.”
Then, Meghann hilariously bit back, sparking a ‘fight’ in the comment section of his post at one point making a dig at his “range” as Joe in You. You can read the exchange below.

Our favourite swipe however, has to be Meghann saying, “Penn Badgley’s a 10, if you’re looking for a temu Pedro Pascal.”
Seriously, we can’t stop laughing at it.
What Is You Deserve Each Other About?
Based on the 2020 novel of the same name from Sarah Hogle, You Deserve Each Other is a lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers again story.
The story centres on Naomi Westfield (Fahy) and Nicholas Rose (Badgley), an engaged couple who come to realise they’re no longer in love. But it’s not as simple as breaking up.
The official synopsis elaborates: “Naomi wants out, but there’s a catch: whoever ends the engagement will have to foot the nonrefundable wedding bill. When Naomi discovers that Nicholas, too, has been feigning contentment, the two of them go head-to-head in a battle of pranks, sabotage, and all-out emotional warfare.”
