While Outlander officially closed the book on Claire and Jamie Fraser’s story last month, fans aren’t saying goodbye to the Highlands just yet.
On World Outlander Day, which marks the publication of Diana Gabaldon’s first novel in 1991, Stan and Sony Pictures Television unveiled the first teaser for season two of Outlander: Blood of My Blood. The reveal comes as fans celebrate the franchise’s 35th anniversary and confirms the beloved prequel will return on September 19.
And if the newly released footage is anything to go by, the next chapter promises even more romance, heartbreak and clan warfare.
The series, which explores the love stories of Claire Beauchamp’s parents and Jamie Fraser’s parents, quickly won over both long time Outlander devotees and newcomers during its debut season. Along the way, viewers discovered that the lives of these two families were far more intertwined than anyone could have imagined.
A quick warning: spoilers lie ahead!
Season one ended on a dramatic cliffhanger for Henry and Julia Beauchamp. After being unexpectedly transported back in time and separated across 18th-century Scotland, the pair finally reunited at the standing stones of Craigh na Dun, hoping to return home to their young daughter, Claire.
However, the season two teaser suggests their reunion may be tragically short-lived.
The footage opens with a distressed Julia alone with her baby, while Henry appears once again separated from the woman he loves. According to Stan, the new season will see Henry struggling with both isolation and his mental health as he desperately searches for a way back to Julia.
Meanwhile, another beloved couple faces challenges of their own.
Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie’s forbidden romance survived family opposition throughout season one, but their future is threatened by the outbreak of the 1715 Jacobite Rising. As Scotland edges closer to war, both must choose between their love for one another and their loyalty to their clans.
The teaser hints at battles, emotional reunions and difficult sacrifices as the conflict reshapes the Highlands around them.
Returning cast members include Hermione Corfield as Julia Beauchamp, Jeremy Irvine as Henry Beauchamp, Harriet Slater as Ellen MacKenzie and Jamie Roy as Brian Fraser. Fan favourites Tony Curran, Rory Alexander, Conor MacNeill, Séamus McLean Ross and Australian actor Sam Retford will also reprise their roles.
With Outlander officially concluded, Blood of My Blood now carries the torch for one of television’s most beloved fantasy-romance franchises.
