Confirmed on the show’s Instagram, our TV screens are set to be blessed with yet another season (and, ahem, more Jamie moments to daydream about).

The series—for those who may have just jumped on the bandwagon—is based on Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling book series of the same name and follows British Army nurse Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) who is suddenly transported to 1743 into a mysterious world where her freedom and life are threatened. To survive, she must marry Jamie Fraser, (Sam Heughan) a strapping Scots warrior with a complicated past. Obviously, their romance blooms and Claire is caught between two vastly different men in two inharmonious lives.

And if the first six seasons wasn’t enough to whet your appetite, we’ve gathered intel for our own investigation into everything there is to know about the popular series’ seventh season, to read up on after you partake in a five season re-watch.

Below, all the important details for Outlander season seven—from what the plot might entail to when we may get to see it in Australia.

Has Outlander Been Confirmed For A Season Seven?

According to Variety, Outlander has officially been renewed for a season seven. The news comes as the show is currently in production on season six, which was supposed to air in late 2020 but was ultimately delayed due to the pandemic.

Consisting of 12 episodes, it is rumoured that season seven of the popular series will follow the seventh novel in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander book series, An Echo in the Bone

In the novel, the story returns to Lallybroch, where Brianna, Roger, Jem and Mandy discover letters from Claire and Jamie from the past, one of which mentions hidden gold with a location only known by Jem. The novel continues to chronicle the adventures of Claire and Jamie in the 18th century, as well as their daughter, Brianna MacKenzie and her husband, Roger MacKenzie, who have returned to the 20th century.

In a statement released by Starz, the TV company that airs the show, the season could also see Claire and Jamie take on the American revolution, saying: “We look forward to following the adventures of Claire and Jamie in America during the Revolution as well as more time travel during this next season.”

Which Cast Members Will Return For Outlander Season 7?

In a rather unsurprising turn of events, fans are sure to see Catriona Balfe and Sam Heughan return as Dr. Claire Fraser and Jamie Fraser, along with returning cast members, Richard Rankin (Roger Mackenzie), Sophie Skelton (Brianna Mackenzie), Lauren Lyle (Marsali Fraser) and John Bell (Ian Murray).

Set to appear in season six, the character of César Domboy’s Fergus Fraser and David Berry’s Lord John Grey will presumably appear in the seventh season, however the fate of the entire troupe will be determined in the upcoming season.
