It seems there was a love famine on 2026’s Farmer Wants a Wife, with the last remaining couple, Farmer Zac and Maya, calling it quits.
The couple announced the news on Instagram on Tuesday, citing the challenges of long-distance as the reason behind their breakup.
“From the beginning, our connection was strong. We then became each other’s best friends, which led us into an amazing relationship,” their joint caption read.
“Navigating our relationship while being long-distance proved to be no easy journey. The timing for us to make that next move wasn’t right, and unfortunately, this shifted the relationship. We have therefore decided to go our separate ways.”
The couple have now revealed the details of their split, telling Woman’s Day they couldn’t make long distance work.
“We had spoken about it about a week before we made the announcement,” Zac revealed.
He continued, “We often checked in with each other to see how we were going with our relationship and mentally, and at that time we just came to the decision.”
Zac and Maya had been navigating long distance since the show wrapped, with Zac’s apple orchard based in Forest Range in the Adelaide Hills, while Maya resides in Melbourne.
“Long distance was doing its thing and it was just proving to be a really tough situation,” she told the publication.
“Our relationship had never actually been normal, so it needed work. But it was just hard to try and make time, to be in person and to really work on our relationship together. That’s when it started to shift.”
She also revealed how upcoming plans may have made a move to Zac’s farm more difficult, explaining: “I’ve got my sister’s wedding next month and I have a few other things coming up, and so did Zac. Long distance proved to be hard the whole 10 months after filming wrapped. We pushed on, but then it was just too challenging in the end. It works for some couples, but it just didn’t work for us.”
Maya and Zac’s breakup means every single couple from this season has now gone their separate ways, despite the show’s usual reputation for producing solid love stories. Perhaps we’ll see some familiar faces crop up on Love Island next?
