The internet is collectively losing its mind over a man made of wicker. Yes, you read that right.
I’m talking about unprecedented levels of thirst and horniness for a man, if we can call him that, crafted from soft twigs and plant materials. If this doesn’t emphasise quite how low the bar has been set for men, well, I don’t know what does.
So, what exactly has everyone feeling like they need a good dousing with ice water? It’s the manic magic of 2026 rom-com, aptly named Wicker.
What Is The Wicker Movie About?
In what is swiftly becoming the most anticipated rom-com of the year, Wicker tells the tale of a perpetually single woman living in an undefined ‘ye old’ era, who longs for her relationship status to cease being a point of conversation among townfolk.
Repulsed by her options, she does what any sane single woman would: she has the perfect man created for her. There’s just one catch, and you guessed it: he’s made from wicker. Cue an endless supply of hardwood jokes.
The official film synopsis reads: “In a seaside village lost to time, a fisherwoman (Olivia Coleman) delivers the food relied on by the townsfolk, who barely tolerate her cantankerous presence. Unexpectedly named the next to be wed and sick of the disdain, she commissions the local Basketmaker (Peter Dinklage) to weave her the perfect husband (Alexander Skarsgård) and he truly goes above and beyond.”
It goes on: “When you’re married to the hottest and handiest man around, jealousies inevitably flare up.”
The first trailer for Wicker has dropped, full of those aforementioned tongue-in-cheek jokes, sparking an insatiable thirst for what we can only describe as the most enticing man made from natural materials we’ve ever seen (sorry, scarecrow Jonathan Bailey).
The clip has spurred an endless stream of thirsty comments and horny memes as people everywhere wish for their own wicker husband.
Unfortunately, we have to wait a few months before we get more of the internet’s new boyfriend. Wicker is coming to Australian cinemas on November 26, 2026
Is Wicker Based On A Book?
Before he was setting group chats alight, the wicker husband existed as the star of The Wicker Husband, a 14-page short story by British author Ursula Wills-Jones, published back in 2008.
The bones of the story are all there: an ostracised woman on the fringes of her fishing village, a reclusive basketmaker, and a husband woven from wicker who turns out to be more devoted than any of the “real” men around him. It’s since had a whole other life as a UK folk musical, performed with puppetry at England’s Watermill Theatre in 2020 and again in 2022.
While the film leans hard into innuendo (see: “strong as a tree, and just as hard”), those who’ve read the source material describe something closer to a melancholy fairytale than a smutty read.
