Free Books Will Be Scattered Across Capital City Trains For Valentine’s Day

Have a ‘Blind Date with a Book’

If you can’t think of anything worse than receiving a single red rose on Valentine’s day (the cringe factor is high), keep your eyes peeled on your commute to work tomorrow morning and you could find a book instead.

Penguin Random House will be scattering hundreds of books inside trains and trams across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane tomorrow, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Their message? Have a ‘Blind Date with a Book’, by reading something you might otherwise have never met read.

“We’re encouraging people to try an author or genre they wouldn’t normally, simply by picking it up! It’s a blind date you don’t even have to dress up for and there’s a lot less pressure,” Ali Hampton of Penguin Random House tells The Daily Telegraph.

The publishing house has partnered with Books On The Rail and Street Library for the initiative, and will also place books in more than 50 street libraries from Paddington to Nowra.

The books will be wrapped in orange paper and covered – fittingly – in pink hearts.

Keep an eye out.
