There’s a reason doing the same workout week after week eventually stops feeling quite so effective. Our bodies are remarkably good at adapting. Give them the same movements, resistance and intensity often enough and they become more efficient at handling the load. That’s useful for survival, less useful when you’re trying to keep progressing.
It’s why variety has become such an important part of smart training. Changing the stimulus gives your body something new to respond to, while also challenging coordination and control in ways that a familiar routine can’t.
Pilates is particularly well suited to this kind of progression. But not all studios are created equal. The key to true progress is a studio that will continue to challenge your body beyond the reformer bed.

Club Pilates, for instance, offers four levels of workout — Level 1, Level 1.5, Level 2 and Level 2.5 — allowing the challenge to increase as your experience and strength develop.
For beginners, that might mean learning the fundamentals and becoming comfortable with the movements. For more experienced members, it can mean taking on greater complexity and physical demand.
Alongside the reformer, sessions can incorporate the Springboard, Chair, Cadillac, TRX, Jumpboard and other apparatus, each changing the way the body has to stabilise, resist and move. No two workouts are ever the same.
There are also multiple class formats to suit every body, targeting key areas such as strength, cardio, mobility and recovery, meaning you can change up your weekly routine at a whim according to what your body needs or what stage of your fitness journey you’re in.
Ultimately, that’s the benefit of variety: your workout can change as your body, fitness and goals do.
