What The New Moon In Leo Colliding With An Eclipse Means For You

Feeling sassy?

If you’ve been feeling a little more main-character than usual this week, you’re not imagining it. August’s New Moon lands in the lion-faced sign of the zodiac, but this isn’t your ordinary lunar reset. This month’s moon arrives alongside a total solar eclipse, a pairing astrologers say could mark a major turning point.

It also follows hot on the heels of the Lion’s Gate Portal, which wraps up today, while Jupiter — the planet of luck and expansion — is parked in Leo for the better part of a year. Translation: the dial on all things Leo — confidence, creativity, romance and, yes, a little bit of drama — has been turned all the way up. Here’s what it all means.

New Moon In Leo Meaning

In astrology, New Moons are all about new beginnings. They mark the start of a fresh lunar cycle and are often treated as a good time to set intentions, make a wish list and decide what you want more of in the weeks and months ahead.

Put that New Moon in Leo, and the energy gets considerably more glamorous.

Leo is, as we mentioned, the zodiac’s resident main character. Ruled by the Sun, it’s associated with confidence, creativity, self-expression, romance, recognition, and the desire to be seen for exactly who you are. It’s less about quietly waiting for your moment and more about deciding you deserve one.

According to astrologer Natasha Weber, this is exactly what this New Moon is asking us to do.

“Leo asks us to back ourselves. To trust our own judgment, advocate for what we deserve and have the courage to take up space where we may have previously held back,” she says

Consider that your cosmic permission slip to stop second-guessing yourself.

Whether that means finally pitching the idea you’ve been sitting on, asking for what you actually want, putting yourself forward for an opportunity or simply taking up a little more space in your own life, Leo energy is less interested in playing it safe.

And then there’s the eclipse.

How Does The Solar Eclipse In Leo Affect You?

The New Moon isn’t arriving alone. It coincides with a total solar eclipse, making this lunation particularly significant from an astrological perspective.

Astronomically, a solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, temporarily blocking the Sun’s light. Astrologically, eclipses are often associated with change, turning points and unexpected shifts in direction.

“Eclipses have a way of changing the storyline,” Weber says. “They’re linked to fate, destiny and turning points that can redirect us in ways we don’t always see coming.”

Which sounds dramatic, but then again, we’re talking about Leo.

This eclipse also marks the beginning of an 18-month Leo–Aquarius eclipse cycle, so the themes that start emerging now aren’t necessarily going to play out overnight.

“This eclipse also begins an 18-month Leo–Aquarius eclipse cycle, so pay attention to what starts unfolding in your Leo house now,” Weber says. “This story is only beginning.”

Your Leo house refers to the area of your birth chart where Leo falls. Depending on your chart, that could relate to everything from your career and relationships to your friendships, home life, creativity or sense of identity.
