It’s never fun at the time, but it turns out having a mum with high expectations will make you more successful.
What’s more – having a pushy parent also decreases your chances of falling pregnant as a teenager.
The stats come from researchers at the University of Essex, who studied 15,500 girls aged between 13 and 14 for a period of seven years. As marie claire US reports, they found that girls whose mothers had high expectations of their behaviour were more likely to go to uni, earn a higher salary and end up with successful partners. They were also less likely to become teen mums.

So next time you’re being nagged (or find youself nagging children of your own), take heart in the knowledge that, in the long run, everyone benefits.
