It’s a sad day for love in Hollywood because it looks like Riverdale sweethearts Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse have broken up after two years of dating. The pair, who met on the set of the Netflix show and began dating shortly after, reportedly keep their distance from each other at Comic-Con over the weekend, where Cole was overheard telling someone he and Lili had ended their relationship.
Multiple sources confirmed the split to Us Weekly with one saying that the two were “rarely seen together” at Comic-Con, though they did put on a brave front when necessary and were seen mingling with cast mates.
Cole and Lili, who play on-screen couple Jughead Jones and Betty Cooper on Riverdale, were first rumoured to be dating in July 2017 after they were spotted kissing at a Comic-Con after-party and then in Paris a month later. They officially made their red carpet debut at the 2018 Met Gala and, though they generally avoid talking about each other publicly, will post loved up Instagrams every so often, such as the Valentine’s Day tribute Lili wrote in February: “You make me very happy. Happy Valentine’s Day, my love.”
Earlier this year, in a rare revealing interview, Cole opened up about the most romantic thing he’d ever done for Lili, telling Glamour, “I really like the road trip date. I took my girlfriend on a date where we drove to this location deep into Canada, and I surprised her with a big hot-air balloon adventure, which was quite a bit of fun. I like travelling quite a bit. I like road-tripping. Those grand experiences always end up yielding the greatest memories — and the greatest romances.”
The former couple hasn’t commented on the split rumours yet, but Lili did make it clear that she and Cole still have a friendly relationship, sharing a photo of them together at Comic-Con with KJ Apa, writing, “Please don’t put me between these two ever again.”
