Congratulations are in order for Finneas O’Connell and Claudia Sulewski, who tied the knot in Montecito over the weekend in an intimate celebration surrounded by family and friends.
According to Vogue, the bride turned to Oscar de la Renta, enlisting the storied American fashion house to create her custom wedding gown, alongside three additional bespoke looks worn throughout the celebrations.
After scouring the Oscar de la Renta archives, Sulewski found herself drawn to some of the house’s more “princess like” silhouettes from previous collections, ultimately opting for a romantic, sculptural shape for her ceremony gown.
Crafted from ivory silk faille, the ballgown featured a a drop-waist bodice which gave way to a structured, pleated skirt while an asymmetric draped scarf neckpiece cascaded down the full length of her train.
Officiating the ceremony was Finneas’ sister and longtime musical collaborator, Billie Eilish. Given the siblings’ famously close relationship, Billie’s central role in the ceremony felt especially poignant.
“Finneas is my best friend, my big brother,” Billie said in 2019, while accepting Variety’s Hitmaker of the Year award. “He’s four years older than me and we’ve been best friends kind of forever. We started writing music together when I was 13 and he was 18 or 17 and he produces everything. He’s the only reason I’m anywhere in the whole world. He’s probably the only reason I’m alive.”
Among the famous faces pictured at the celebrations were Justin and Hailey Bieber, Rachel Sennott, Emma Chamberlain, Rebecca Black, Jason Sudeikis, Kristen Bell, Devon Lee Carlson and Stassie Karanikolaou. Billie’s boyfriend, Nat Wolff, was also reportedly in attendance.
Like many modern love stories, Finneas and Claudia’s began in the digital ether, where the couple first crossed paths on the exclusive dating app Raya back in 2018.
Speaking on the on The Skinny Confidential Him & Her podcast in 2020, Sulewski revealed that their meeting had been preceded by a series of coincidences.
“Two and a half years leading up to us meeting on Raya — I have a lot of friends that are in the music industry — and two of my best friends, specifically, had sessions with him. And both times, they both were like, ‘I just had a session with this guy. You guys would fall in love with each other. But it’s not worth it, because he’s always out of town,’” she said.
Then, in September 2018, Sulewski stumbled across Finneas’ profile on Raya and asked her friend, “‘Is this the guy? Finneas? Like, who else has that name?’ And she was like, ‘Oh, my God! I can’t believe he’s single. Yes! You need to match with him.’”
As it tuned out, her friends matchmaking instincts were rather prescient. Their first date went so well that Finneas wrote a song about her on the same day they met.
“I wrote the song ‘Claudia’ about Claudia the day that I met Claudia, and I sent it to her the night that I met Claudia,” Finneas later told BuzzFeed. “I sent her the first part, and she texted me back, ‘You’re trouble.’”
Finneas spoke to People about their wedding plans in October last year, revealing that he wanted Claudia to take the driver’s seat when it came to planning the special day.
“I want her to love everything about it, and I am very easy to please, so I will for sure love everything about it.”
