At Coachella’s second weekend, Justin Bieber delivered a headlining set that leaned into both spectacle and nostalgia. But the night’s most disarming (and sweetest) moment belonged to Billie Eilish, not as a collaborator, but simply as a super fan.
As is tradition, midway through his 2009 hit “One Less Lonely Girl,” Bieber plucked someone from the crowd to be serenaded. This time, the one less lonely girl was Eilish herself.
From Belieber to headliner and back again, her cameo unfolded during a music video interlude, with Bieber duetting his younger self through archival YouTube clips. When he invited her on stage, the cool, composed performer gave way to someone visibly overwhelmed, stepping squarely into the realisation of a long-held teenage dream.
A video from the night shows Hailey Bieber dancing beside her in the crowd before gently, and then rather decisively, ushering her towards the stage to revel in the moment.
Billie Eilish barely made it halfway up before dropping to her knees, burying her face in her hands and teetering on the edge of tears as Justin Bieber sang to her. Clad in a purple windbreaker, a subtle nod to Bieber’s iconic signature hue, it was the kind of unfiltered devotion once synonymous with his earliest fans, now refracted through one of the biggest artists in the world.
The sentiment was hard to ignore. Billie Eilish has long been open about her devotion to Justin Bieber, even sharing photos in 2020 of her childhood bedroom plastered wall to wall with his posters.
That once one-sided fandom has since evolved into a genuine, long-standing friendship. As he closed the song with a soft “Only you, shawty,” she was pulled into one final hug before slipping back into the crowd.
Elsewhere in the set, Bieber welcomed a rotating cast of guests including Big Sean, Sexyy Red and SZA, while his first weekend featured appearances from The Kid LAROI, Dijon, Tems, Wizkid and Mk.gee.
“Bieberchella,” as it’s since been dubbed, has dominated conversation in Indio and well beyond across both weekends. The crowds have skewed distinctly A-list, with Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Timothée Chalamet and Jacob Elordi all spotted in the audience.
