The trope of co-stars falling in love on set is as old as Hollywood itself. From Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, some of the industry’s most enduring romances began with shared scenes, leaving audiences perpetually fascinated by the possibility of on-screen chemistry spilling into real life.

The latest pair to spark speculation? Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein, who star opposite one another in the upcoming Netflix rom-com Office Romance.

Rumours began circulating after Page Six reported the pair had allegedly shared a brief “fling” while filming. According to an unnamed source, the co-stars remained professional on set but shared an undeniable connection behind the scenes.

“They tried to keep things low-key during the months while filming but flirted here and there on set, and they definitely had a strong connection,” the insider claimed. “Everyone saw them getting very cosy together at the wrap party and it was obvious they were into each other.”

However, Lopez has firmly shut down the speculation. Appearing on the Today Show alongside Goldstein, Lopez laughed off suggestions there was anything romantic happening between them.

“There’s never a time when I’m seen with somebody or working with somebody where they don’t try to put me with the person,” she said.

Goldstein quickly joined in, joking, “I think if you stand near her, that’s what happens.”

“That’s what you wish would happen!” host Savannah Guthrie quipped back.

The conversation only fuelled further intrigue when Guthrie pointed out that Goldstein had envisioned Lopez for the lead role before casting even began. Still, Lopez remained adamant that the rumours were unfounded.

When Guthrie asked directly whether the pair were dating, Lopez gave a definitive response.

“Not dating,” she said, shaking her head.

Adding to the intrigue is the fact that Goldstein’s appreciation for Lopez is hardly new. Years before Office Romance entered the picture, he was regularly singing her praises on his podcast, Films To Be Buried With.

In a resurfaced 2018 episode discussing the movie Hustlers, Goldstein enthusiastically marvelled at Lopez’s performance and appearance.

“F—king hell. 50! She’s 50. I love her,” he said.

At one point, he even joked about being jealous of one of Lopez’s co-stars during a scene in which they shared a hug.

“I’ve never wanted to be cuddled more,” Goldstein said. “That is one of the best cuddles.”

Lopez’s most recent high-profile relationship was with actor and filmmaker Ben Affleck. The pair famously rekindled their early-2000s romance in 2021, married in 2022 and filed for divorce in August 2024.

Meanwhile, Goldstein’s last confirmed relationship was with British comedian Beth Rylance. The couple went public in 2021 after Goldstein thanked her during his Emmy Awards acceptance speech, before reportedly splitting the following year.

So, are Lopez and Goldstein quietly downplaying a real romance, or have they simply become the latest victims of the internet’s relentless desire to turn chemistry into a love story? The jury remains out.
