Private text messages between Taylor Swift and Blake Lively have now entered the public record.
On Tuesday, a tranche of court documents was unsealed as part of Blake Lively’s ongoing legal dispute with her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni, including a series of personal text exchanges purportedly between Lively and Swift.
The documents were released ahead of a summary judgment hearing scheduled for January 22. Lively has accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and of orchestrating a retaliatory smear campaign against her, allegations he has repeatedly denied.
This is not the first time Swift’s name has surfaced in connection with the case. Earlier filings from Baldoni’s legal team alleged that the pop star was present during interactions between him and Lively. In June 2025, after withdrawing an attempt to subpoena Swift directly, Baldoni’s attorneys successfully petitioned the court for access to text messages exchanged between the two longtime friends.
As the legal battle has intensified, rumours of distance between Swift and Lively have quietly circulated, fuelled further by Swift’s apparent efforts to remain publicly removed from the dispute. The newly unsealed documents now offer rare insight into what was unfolding privately.
What Was The Text Exchange Between Blake Lively & Taylor Swift?
In one batch of messages dated December 2024, the two women appear to address how the It Ends With Us controversy was affecting their friendship.
Lively reached out first, expressing concern that her personal struggles may have created emotional distance.
“I have no reason to ask, but I donno, I’ve been feeling like I should… is everything ok?” she wrote. “I felt like a bad friend lately because I was such a sad sack who only talked about my own shit for months.”
Lively thanked Swift for supporting her through the ordeal, adding that husband Ryan Reynolds had encouraged her to check in directly.
“I always want the opportunity to be a better friend if there’s something I unintentionally did,” Lively continued. “I know how busy and taxed you are physically, emotionally, practically, so I don’t expect any more from you ever. Just want to make sure all is good.”
Swift replied more than an hour later.
“You’re not wrong, but it’s also not a big deal,” she wrote while nearing the final leg of her Eras Tour. “I think I’m just exhausted in every avenue of my life.”
She acknowledged the legal situation surrounding Baldoni, adding, “I’ve been through things like this before and I know how all-consuming it is.”
Still, Swift admitted she had felt a subtle emotional shift.
“Your last few texts… it’s felt like I was reading a mass corporate email sent to 200 employees,” she wrote. “I just kinda miss my funny, dark, normal-speaking friend who talks to me as herself.”
“You don’t need to apologise,” she added. “Just come back please.”
Hours later, Lively responded, acknowledging the distance and explaining its emotional toll.
“The thing that spooked me most in all this wasn’t the bad guys being bad guys,” she wrote. “It was the good guys, my lifelong friends, allies to women, who quietly dipped.”
“And so I’m probably being over the top with my friends who stayed” she continued, “I’ve never felt more alone.”
The exchange occurred just three days before Swift concluded her record-breaking Eras Tour. Lively closed her message by telling the singer she was “excited” for her to finally be done with “suitcases, constant sinus infections and torn up kneecaps.”
Filings Detail Swift’s “Tiny Violin” Comment About Baldoni
In the same December 2024 conversation, Swift also appeared to comment directly on Baldoni.
After sharing a screenshot of a People article in which Baldoni claimed he had been “sexually traumatized,” Swift reportedly wrote, “I think this bitch knows something is coming because he’s gotten out his tiny violin.”
Additional texts show Swift expressing frustration and support for Lively. “This is so disgusting and I hate that he’s clever about this shit,” one message reads. Another adds, “He needs to be beaten by his OWN words.”
The language caught fans’ attention, echoing lyrics from Swift’s then-recent track “Cancelled!” on The Life of a Showgirl, which references a “tiny violin,” a coincidence that quickly ignited online speculation.
So did Swift and Lively’s friendship endure the legal drama? That remains unclear. What the unsealed texts do offer is a rare glimpse into how the dispute reverberated beyond the courtroom, exposing the strain unfolding privately between two longtime friends.
