Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, have revealed the name of their baby daughter. Announcing the news on Instagram, Eugenie shared that they had chosen the name Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank, in tribute to “three people we love and admire, past and present.” The name also reflects their English and Portuguese heritage, representing “two places we love and call home.”

Adelaide’s name carries royal significance, with her middle name, Elizabeth, honouring her great-grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II. Her first name, meanwhile, pays tribute to Queen Adelaide, the wife of King William IV, who was known for her charitable nature, modesty and strong religious faith. The royal connection also has an Australian link, with the city of Adelaide named in her honour when it was established in 1836.

Adelaide joins the couple’s two sons, five-year-old August Philip Hawke Brooksbank and three-year-old Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank. Buckingham Palace confirmed she was born on Monday, August 3, 2026, at 6:20 p.m. at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal.

In a statement, the palace said, “Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family were delighted to be informed of the news.”

While her birthplace is unusual for a member of the royal family, it reflects the family’s lifestyle changes in recent years. Since 2022, Eugenie and Jack have divided their time between the UK and Portugal with their two sons after Jack accepted a role with property developer Mike Meldman, a business partner of George Clooney.

Jack previously worked as a brand ambassador for Casamigos, the tequila company co-founded by Clooney and Rande Gerber. Meanwhile, Princess Eugenie continues her work as a director at Hauser & Wirth, the international modern and contemporary art gallery.

Eugenie spoke about her new lifestyle in Portugal during a 2023 appearance on the Table Manners podcast.

“This is why Portugal is the dream because I can go to the supermarket in my exercise gear and my hair piled on my head and not mind. Not care. No one cares,” she said.

Adelaide is 15th in line to the British throne, following her two older brothers, and is believed to be the first member of the British royal family to be born in Portugal.
