Buckingham Palace is undergoing its 10-yearly renovations right now, and construction workers have found a little more than they bargained for: a stash of vintage cigarettes and ancient newspaper clippings hidden beneath the palace’s floorboards.

The Royal Family revealed the unlikely findings on its official Twitter account this week: “The building work uncovered pieces of history hidden beneath the floorboards at Buckingham Palace including this clipping from the Evening Standard newspaper, published in 1889,” they tweeted.

Three cigarette tins were also found, but the palace has provided no clue as to who they could belong to.
