A 27-year-old teacher faces up to 20-years prison time for having sex with a 13-year-old student at the school she taught at.
Amelia Tat from Virginia confessed to two counts of carnal knowledge without force of a 13 to 15-year-old in court last week.
She had sex with the student on multiple occasions, and the first incident took place in 2015, while she was teaching at Jack Jouett Middle School.
NBC29 reports that the incidents were initiated online, with Tat messaging the student on Instagram and Snapchat. She first told the student that she had feelings for him there.
Then she asked the student to ‘stay late and help her after class’ one day, which led to sexual intercourse. Tat continued to contact the student, and they had sex on another occasion a few weeks later.
The student’s mother called the police when she found messages from the teacher on her son’s phone.
Tat faces a minimum sentence of 20 years in jail, and a $200,000 fine. She will be sentenced on May 1.
