Charles has been vocal about his fight against pollution and climate change, and is often found talking about his desire to preserve and protect the planet by any means possible. Prince William and Prince Harry revealed that they picked up the habit of litter picking from their father.
During a recent documentary in celebration of Charles’ 70th birthday, Harry explained: ‘I used to get taken the mickey out of at school for picking up rubbish. I didn’t go out consciously looking for it but when you go for walks anywhere and you see something and it stands out, you pick it up.’
So it will come as no surprise that he touched on the subject during a speech in Ghana last month. He used his platform to discuss the fact that he is about to become a grandfather for the fourth time – but it had some very sad undertones. The Prince of Wales spoke about the effect that plastic pollution will have on future generations, and used baby Sussex as an example of someone who will suffer the consequences in years to come.
According to The Telegraph, Prince Charles said: ‘I am about to have another grandchild actually. I suspect quite a few of you may too have grandchildren or will do soon.
‘It does seem to me insanity if we are going to bequeath this completely polluted, damaged and destroyed world to them. All grandchildren deserve a better future.’
Agreed.
