Gin Connoisseur, Queen Elizabeth II, Has Been Told To Bid Adieu To Her Beloved Daily Tipples

It's said that Her Majesty indulges in four cocktails every day

Much like the rest of her royal counterparts, Queen Elizabeth II is partial to an excellent drink. While she—and her son, Prince Charles—have both launched their own gin offerings, it’s a no-brainer that Her Majesty can appreciate alcohol for its benefits and the pleasures it brings. However, it seems like her doctors would rather she forged her passion for a tipple.

As a 95-year-old, the Queen is doing rather well for her age. Recently, she was seen using a cane to aid in walking while in Wales, addressing the Welsh Parliament, however, she appears to be in good health as she approaches her Platinum Jubilee next June, that aims to celebrate her 70th year as Queen.

Despite this, the royal’s medical team have advised Her Majesty that it may be best to bid farewell to her evening martini as she approaches her 100th year, as per Vanity Fair

The publication also reports that sources close to the monarch claimed doctors have advised Queen Elizabeth to only enjoy lacquer on special occasions, to keep her as healthy as possible for the monumental event—after all, she will be the first British royal to hit the 70-year milestone.

“The Queen has been told to give up her evening drink which is usually a martini,” a source claims. “It’s not really a big deal for her, she is not a big drinker but it seems a trifle unfair that at this stage in her life she’s having to give up one of very few pleasures,” said source adds, despite previous reports that Her Majesty indulges in four cocktails every night.

Her beverage routine is a shock to most, especially given that she is rarely seen drinking in public. However, palace sources claim that her drink of choice is often a dry martini, a favourite of Charles’ too.

Her late cousin, Margaret Rhodes, claimed that when it comes time for dinner, Her Majesty apparently enjoys a glass of sweet wine and treats herself to a glass of champagne before heading to bed. But now, as per doctor’s orders, she is only permitted to sip from water and soft drinks.

“The alcohol has gone, her doctors want to make sure she is as fit and healthy as possible,” a second source reports.

Back in 2020, Buckingham Palace released its own brand of gin, Sandringham Gin, after the Norfolk country house where the Queen resides and the royal family usually gather for the holidays. The small-batch ‘celebration’ gin is described as “a full-bodied gin with rich juniper tones and a lingering citrus finish”, according to the bottle, and at $91 AUD for 500mL, it will set you back a pretty penny. The Queen facilitates the production of sparkling wine from her own vines that are grown at Windsor Great Park.

And now, it looks as if harvesting alcohol is the closest Her Majesty will get to the daily tipples she once enjoyed.
