When Gigi Paris split from ex-boyfriend Glen Powell in 2023, it did nothing to help quash the rumours of an affair with his Anyone But You co-star Sydney Sweeney.
The speculation of a romance between Powell, 36, and Sweeney, 27, was fuelled on flirty press tour appearances and cosy behind the-scenes-footage of the co-stars on set. Ultimately, it formed the catalyst for Paris to call off her relationship to the Hollywood heartthrob, and now she’s spoken out about the highly publicised split.
In an episode of the Too Much podcast, Paris, 32, shared that she was “shattered” by Powell’s behaviour on the press tour but ultimately chose to “stand up for myself” by ending the three-year relationship.
“I had two options. I could either pretend like I was going along with everything and have everyone wonder, like, ‘Are [Glen and Sydney] hooking up? Are they not hooking up? Is she okay with this? What the f**k?’ Or stand up for myself and say, ‘No, I’m actually not okay with this, and I’m walking away.’ So that’s what I decided to do … I was shattered,” Paris told host Emma Klipstein.
Both Powell and Sweeney were in respective relationships while filming and then promoting the hit rom-com, the later being engaged to film producer Jonathan Davino.
And while rumours of a romance between the two, who are now both single, have been chalked up to a publicity stunt, Paris shared it was Powell’s lack of willingness to shut speculation down that proved the final straw.
“Where are you when you just need to stand up and say, ‘No, I would never cheat on my girlfriend. I wouldn’t do that.’ That’s all that needed to be said. And that wasn’t said … Never once,” Paris said.
“I honestly hoped that they’d end up together, because I was like, at least it would make it worth it for me.”
At the time of the split, Paris posted a cryptic yet pointed Instagram video, captioning: “Know your worth & onto the next.”
The sentiment makes more sense than ever as Paris explained on the podcast she felt she wasn’t a “priority” to Powell.
“Like, don’t make an ass out of me. Like, just don’t make a fool out of someone you’ve been with for over three years talking about forever with. Just have some decency, you know?”
“And at the end of the day, it was like, well, work comes first. And if that’s the case, power to you, that’s your priority. I gotta walk away. What sucked was how it was handled. I felt like I was just fed to the dogs.”
Sage advide for anyone in a relationship where they don’t feel like a priority.
Sweeny and Powell recently reignited dating rumours following The Housemaid star’s split with her fiance, Davino earlier this year.
The co-stars were spotted at the wedding of Powell’s sister, however speculation was once again debunked and resigned to friendship.
