If the last year has taught me anything, it’s that the best-dressed people aren’t necessarily carrying the loudest bags. As wardrobes have become more streamlined, I’ve found myself paying closer attention to the pieces that pull everything together. A really good handbag isn’t there to steal the spotlight; it’s there to do the heavy lifting—both literally and figuratively.
I’ve been trying (and largely failing) to resist adding another everyday bag to my collection. My problem isn’t a lack of options—it’s finding one that works just as well on a Monday morning commute as it does thrown over my shoulder for dinner, without feeling like it’s trying too hard. That’s where Oroton’s new Cleo collection comes in.
The collection is made up of two silhouettes: the Cleo Shoulder Bag and the Cleo Work Tote. I was immediately drawn to the Shoulder Bag, particularly in the crackle leather finish. It has the character of something you might stumble across in a vintage boutique, but the clean lines and understated hardware keep it feeling firmly in the present. It’s polished, but not precious—the kind of bag that only gets better with wear.
Then there’s the Cleo Work Tote. Somewhere between returning to the office, travelling more and saying yes to after-work plans, I’ve stopped wanting separate bags for separate occasions. I want one that can carry my laptop, notebook, headphones and everything else I inevitably end up hauling around, while still looking like something you’d happily wear long after you’ve logged off.
