Call it optimism that we’ll actually have places to go and people to see by the time spring is in full swing, but we’re very excited at the prospect of a new season hair refresh.
So, before we head to the salon, who better to turn to for advice than two of Australia’s leading hairdressers?
marie claire spoke to Byron Turnbull, Director of Goldie Sydney and Jaye Edwards, Founder, Director and Colourist at EdwardsAndCo to find out which cuts and colours are set to reign supreme this spring…
Colour: Golden Honey
“Gigi Hadid’s perfect summery golden blonde is my prediction for what everyone will be asking for once the weather warms up,” says Turnbull. “It’s rich, it’s touchable and it can handle the sun, so it’s the perfect spring or summer colour.”
Colour: Natural Copper
“Strong, natural-looking copper [colours] and peachy, pastel strawberry blonde [hues] are making a huge comeback,” Edwards explains. “Vibrant red has taken the back seat as we work to amplify the natural beauty of red hair by adding soft, warm tones. It’s a bold look, but when paired with lighter undertones, it gives a ‘born with it’ rather than ‘from the bottle’ look.”
Colour: Subtle Face Framing
“Stepping away from the super high contrast and face-framing ‘E-Girl’ look that has been massive this winter, we will see a more natural face-frame gaining popularity [for spring],” says Edwards. “A [few subtle face-framers] around the front hairline after a balayage or foiling [colour treatment] will really lift your complexion and make your colour pop. It also really increases the longevity of a colour, growing out very softly with minimal upkeep.”
Cut: Textured Bob
“All cool girls will be cutting their hair off this season, and Julia Garner’s texted curly bob will be what all the curly haired girls out there will be asking for,” Turnbull tells marie claire. “This hassle-free look embraces curly texture and at this length you’ll have a sweat-free neck all spring and summer long.”
Cut: The Pixie
“I always say that the pixie is my haircut of the season; its super low-maintenance, easy to wear to any event and it has so many styling options,” shares Turnbull. “It could work super sleek or rough and tousled. It’s a modern twist on the old school Mia Farrow haircut.”
Cut: ’70’s Bangs
“This spring we will be seeing a choppy and modern interpretation of the iconic ’70s bangs, originally made famous by Farrah Fawcett,” Edwards confirms. “With bangs parted in the middle and cut to curve [with] the cheekbones, [the look is] soft and effortless, and works with long, lob, and shorter French bob-length haircuts alike.”
Cut: French Bob
“This year, and particularly post-quarantine, the lob haircut has undoubtedly been one of the biggest haircut trends. Queue the French bob, which is really taking things up a notch as we move into spring,” shares Edwards. “The French bob is cheekbone-skimming and effortlessly chic; it not only saves on blow-drying time but also absolutely nails the relaxed vibe. It is the perfect style for those wanting to embrace a more individual look and enhance their hair’s volume and texture.”
