Will there be a third season of Sweet Magnolias?
There definitely will be! On May 5, Netflix confirmed that our favourite ladies from Serenity would be returning to our screens for a third season. According to Variety, not only are JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott and Heather Headley heading back for a third season, but so is showrunner and executive producer Sheryl J. Anderson.
“We’re thrilled to be embarking on our third season for Netflix, and we’re looking forward to returning to Serenity,” producer Dan Paulson said in an official statement.
What will happen in Sweet Magnolias season 3?
As mentioned, the end of season two was rather ambiguous. Firstly, Helen was proposed to by Ryan, but her answer remains to be seen. Plus, things are a little complicated due to the fact that she's now struck up a relationship with Erik.
Of course, there's also the troubled relationship between Maddie and Cal. After an altercation at Sullivan's, which sees Cal get into a brawl with a superfan and subsequently arrested, Maddie is left wondering whether she really knows him that well after all.
And then there's Isaac—in season two, he found out that his birth mother was none other than Peggy, the local newspaper editor who is shocked at the revelation, but ultimately decides to pursue a relationship with him. Things aren't all smooth sailing from there though, newcomer Noreen and her daughter move in with Isaac, but she's unaware that Bill, the father of her child, is actually Isaac's birth-father. Yep, things are going to get messy in season three...
Who will be cast in Sweet Magnolias season 3?
Our favourite main trio, JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Heather Headley and Brooke Elliot, will undoubtedly return for a third season.
We can also expect to see Chris Medlan return as Isaac, Jamie Lynn Spears as Noreen, Dion Johnstone as Erik and Michael Shenefelt as Ryan.
When will Sweet Magnolias season 3 be released?
As Netflix just confirmed the third season, here's hoping that production gets underway ASAP. If they do, then we could potentially see it drop on the streaming platform by early 2023. Fingers crossed!
