This Bride Held The Perfect Wedding—For Under $1700 AUD

Yes, it is possible

We’ve brought you cost estimations for Pippa Middleton’s wedding, investigated the average amount Australians spend on engagement rings, and reported on possibly the most extravagant wedding of 2017.

And now (on a slightly more affordable note), here’s a story of how one couple held the perfect wedding—for just $1676 AUD.

In an interview with The Daily Record, Glasgow-based, Sydney-born bride Emilyrose Fitzpatrick explained how she and her fiance Rory pulled off a 100-guest wedding on a budget.

“We didn’t want to spend a fortune and I knew we could still have a fantastic day without breaking the bank,” Emilyrose told the publication.

The bride found a “lovely strappy wedding dress” on ASOS for $100 AUD and foraged for flowers around Glasgow. “I bought cheap bouquets from the high street and added thistles and eucalyptus leave,” she explained.

“I hunted for the cheapest rose petal confetti and made an eight-hour wedding playlist.”

As The Independent reports, Rory’s contacts in the hospitality industry helped the pair reserve a function room in a great pub.

“The pub did canapes of calamari and pork pies and we had a £30 cheese tower with crackers instead of a cake,” Emilyrose explained.

“It was the most perfect day and I wouldn’t have changed a thing.”

Back on home soil, an Australian couple managed to save their wedding day with a thrifty DIY cake after their original $500 choice failed to show. As The Daily Telegraph reports, a beloved Woolworths mud cake and a smidge of icing filled the void (and probably tasted pretty damn good too). Genius!
