If you think the models at AFC Australian Fashion Week 2026 seem to have particularly gleaming complexions this year, it could be down to the glow-up they’re getting backstage.
Backstage, skin prep has become as strategic as the collections themselves, with cryotherapy, LED treatments and high-tech tools now playing a major role in getting models runway-ready. And this season, one device in particular keeps appearing behind the scenes; Shark CryoGlow Under-Eye Cooling + LED Mask. And it’s got us interested.

Shark returns to AFW
Shark Beauty has returned this year as the presenting partner of AFC Australian Fashion Week 2026, powering hair and skin across some of the week’s biggest shows including Carla Zampatti, Alix Higgins, Mariam Seddiq, COMMAS and Hansen & Gretel.
Glowing complexions were certainly evident on the opening night, when Australian model Shanina Shaik headlined the Carla Zampatti show. The elegant runway, which had guests such as Miss Universe Australia Maria Thatill watching on, took place on the Park Hyatt boardwalk against a sparkling backdrop of Sydney Harbour and the Sydney Opera House.
And amongst the glorious tailoring and evening wear created by Tanya Eamon Beattie (we wanted all of it), it’s clear that gleaming skin is no longer an afterthought to the clothes.
At-home LED masks have become one of beauty’s most in-demand devices and Shark’s new CryoGlow takes the concept a step further by combining multi-wavelength LED therapy with targeted cryo-inspired cooling for the under-eye area. It is exactly the kind of backstage-meets-real-life beauty technology fashion week thrives on – treatments that deliver visible results quickly, while still looking natural under intense lighting and high-definition cameras.

Prep work with Isabella Schimid, Shark Beauty Skin expert
We asked Shark Beauty Skin expert, Isabella Schimid, who is a fixture backstage this week, just how she created the glowing skin, and how we can get it too.
“For the Carla Zampatti runway, the skin is polished and balmy with an elegant, luxurious finish, paired with a softly contoured, sophisticated eye that feels true to the CZ woman,” says Schimid.
“I start by prepping the skin with the Shark CryoGlow LED Face Mask, using its cooling effect to refine and even the complexion, creating a smooth, luminous base,” Schimid explains of her process.
Powered by iQLED Technology, each LED in the mask emits up to three wavelengths simultaneously – blue light (≈415 nm), red light (≈630 nm) and infrared light (≈850 nm) – which allows the device to target multiple layers of the skin.
The device includes four treatment modes – Better Ageing, Skin Clearing, Under-Eye Revive and Skin Sustain – which helps with concerns ranging from fine lines and breakouts to maintaining glow and overall skin health.
“I love the fact that this mask brings all my favourite tools into one,” says Schimid. “Red light, blue light and infrared therapy with the added bonus of cryo under-eye treatment.”

Cool It
But backstage at fashion week, it was the cooling technology that became one of the biggest talking points. The integrated cryo-inspired under-eye therapy offers three temperature-controlled cooling levels designed to visibly refresh and de-puff tired eyes – exactly the kind of quick fix models and makeup artists rely on during long days of fittings, rehearsals and runway shows.
Shark Beauty Skin Expert Isabella Schimid used the device extensively backstage throughout AFW 2026, including for the Carla Zampatti show where skin was intentionally polished, luminous and modern.
Schimid says the device has become a staple professionally because it combines several technologies into one streamlined treatment. And the results are clear, with model after model coming down the runway radiating health.
“Honestly, I can’t even explain how much my models and talent love the Shark CryoGlow mask,” says Schimid. “For eight minutes they close their eyes, relax, get a glowing light treatment and the cryo element for under-eye puffiness.”

Makeup becomes a breeze
Once skin is prepped, makeup application is seamless, says Schimid. “From there, it’s about balance – a defined, matte lip pressed in as if applied by hand,” she says. “[I wanted to] keep the overall look refined, modern, and effortlessly composed.”
If you’re keen to invest, Schimid recommends using the Shark Beauty device as part of your everyday routine. “It only takes six minutes a day, and who doesn’t have six minutes?” she says. “You can use the cryo eye element on its own after a day of work or after being in wind and sun all day.”
As for her biggest piece of advice? Consistency. “Be consistent. Every day for six or eight minutes depending on the setting,” says Schimid. “That’s the way you’ll get the best results from your Shark CryoGlow mask.”
