Who Is Ed Sheeran’s Wife? All About Cherry Seaborn And The Couple’s Two Daughters

The singer has revealed she was diagnosed with an inoperable tumour while pregnant with their second child.

Ed Sheeran may be a charmer with the guitar, but he hasn’t always been lucky in love. We’ll never forget the diss tracks on Multiply that while not confirmed, appeared to about a falling out with his celebrity girlfriend at the time, Ellie Goulding.

So, when the news broke that Sheeran was dating someone new, and that the lady in question was actually a friend from his childhood, fans couldn’t be happier.

You see, Cherry Seaborn and Ed Sheeran knew each other when they were teenagers, and it was one of those romantic stories where time apart eventually brings you together.

Here’s everything you need to know about his relationships over time, including what married life with Ed Sheeran’s wife, Cherry Seaborn, is like.

Ed Sheeran’s Relationship Timeline

2012: Nina Nesbitt

In 2012 Sheeran dated Scottish singer Nina Nesbitt. It is believed that the songs ‘Nina’ and ‘Photograph’ were written about her, and she even starred in the video clip for his Plus album hit ‘Drunk’.

Nina is currently 28 years old and appears to be single.

2013: Ellie Goulding

While not officially confirmed, Sheeran was rumoured to be romantically linked to Goulding in 2013. Goulding told ELLE UK that she was never in a relationship with Ed.

However, many fans believe the song ‘Don’t’ from Multiply is about Goulding, and given it is a song about a cheating partner in the early days of a relationship, the rumour mill began running.

Some of the more brutal lyrics include, “But you didn’t need to take him to bed, that’s all/And I never saw him as a threat (Get lost)/Until you disappeared with him to have s*x, of course/It’s not like we were both on tour/We were staying on the same (f**ing) hotel floor/And I wasn’t looking for a promise or commitment/But it was never just fun, and I thought you were different.”

All we have to say is, tea.

Fans believe that if the song is about Goulding the ‘other man’ in question could be Niall Horan (ex-One Direction member), and Goulding has admitted going on a few dates with him.

Goulding is now married to art dealer Caspar Jopling, with the pair tying the knot in 2019.

2015: Athina Andrelos

It is believed that Sheeran wrote ‘Thinking Out Loud’ about Andrelos, after dating her for just over a year. The pair kept their links under wraps so not too much is known about why it didn’t work out.

Andrelos is now a director in a marketing agency in London and is married.

2015: Cherry Seaborn

In 2015, Sheeran was in the US and went out to dinner with his friend Lauren in New York City. Lauren had also invited an old school friend, Cherry Seaborn, who Ed had history with. The pair hit it off and in a few years time, she would become his wife.

How Old Was Ed Sheeran When He Met His Wife?

Sheeran was in high school when he met his now wife Cherry Seaborn. The pair attended Thomas Mills High School in Suffolk, England together and were friends, but a relationship didn’t eventuate at the time.

Like many high school friendships, they each went their separate ways, Seaborn to pursue hockey and study, and Sheeran a career in music. It wasn’t until 2015 that they crossed paths again, after a friend invited them both out in New York City.

Sheeran admitted to Dax Shepard in an interview for his podcast Armchair Expert that he was nervous to meet with Seaborn because the last time he’d seen her they had “hooked up”.

“So in my head, I was like what if she remembers that because it was like a while ago. It was very innocent. Very gentle, it was a kiss,” he said.

Luckily, the songbird had nothing to worry about because the two ended up liking each other, and going on dates. In 2018 Sheeran proposed to Seaborn. “Got myself a fiancée just before new year,” he posted on Instagram in the January of that year. “We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well.”

The couple now live in the UK and it is rumoured that Seaborn gets along well with Ed’s other friends, including fellow singer/songwriter Taylor Swift.

What Is Ed Sheeran’s New Album, Subtract, About?

In March 2023 Sheeran announced that he would finally be releasing the fourth album in his symbols saga (he already has Plus, Multiply and Divide), so naturally it would be called Subtract.

It’s a collection of work he’s been cooking up for years, given that Divide came out in 2017, but new circumstances in his life completely changed the game.

He took to Instagram to share the story.

“I had been working on Subtract for a decade, trying to sculpt the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what I thought it should be. Then at the start of 2022, a series of events changed my life, my mental health, and ultimately the way I viewed music and art,” he began.

“Within the space of a month, my pregnant wife got told she had a tumour, with no route to treatment until after the birth. My best friend Jamal, a brother to me, died suddenly, and I found myself standing in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter.”

Like many other singer/songwriters, Sheeran took to writing as a solace, curating a huge body of work very quickly. So, he decided to release these new songs, instead of his long-curated archive of music.

“As an artist I didn’t feel like I could credibly put a body of work into the world that didn’t accurately represent where I am and how I need to express myself at this point in my life. This album is purely that,” he wrote. “This is last February’s diary entry and my way of making sense of it. This is Subtract.”
