The lifespan of a nepo baby goes something like this—use your famous last name to succeed in a creative industry, land a magazine cover and then vehemently deny that your privilege helped you in any way.
Apple Martin is an exception to this rule.
The 18-year-old daughter of actress and Goop queen Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin leads an exceptionally private life.
Unlike her Southern California contemporaries like Kaia Gerber and Kendall Jenner, she hasn’t followed in her parents’ footsteps and gone on to become a household name.
In fact, in her entire lifetime she’s never stepped on the red carpet with her Academy Award-winning mum, made a cameo on stage with her rockstar dad, or even used her polarising name to launch her own line of apple martini cocktails.
That was until recently, when Apple made her debut appearance into the life of a glitterati at none other than Chanel’s SS/23 Haute Couture fashion show in Paris.
Much like a debutant making their first entrance into society, Apple has started her rise as a burgeoning nepo baby and fashion girlie by fulfilling Karl Lagerfeld’s prophecy and becoming an official Chanel girl.
Indeed, it’s not often you’re told by the master of womenswear that you’re destined to be a Chanel girl, but according to fashion writer Derek Blasberg that’s exactly what happened to a young Apple.
Karl Lagerfeld met Apple Martin when she was 4 years old and declared that one day she’d be a Chanel girl. It happened today!” wrote Blasberg on Twitter.
Don’t be surprised when you see Apple walking the runway of helming the maison’s next campaign.
During the show Apple looked like the real-life Serena Van Der Woodsen thanks to her enviable and perfectly polished blonde locks, greyscale tweed cardigan and skirt set and black loafers.
Flanked by actresses Lucy Boynton and Sadie Sink, it’s safe to say this first public outing makes her a Chanel girl indeed.

Of course, when Apple is the perfect genetic mix of both her parents, there’s no shortage of intrigue into her life.
After her parent’s ‘consciously uncoupled’ in 2014, it was never confirmed which parent Apple was primarily living with.
However, thanks to Gwyneth calling her multi-million Montecito mansion a ‘family home’ and Apple’s sightings with her dad’s girlfriend, Dakota Johnson, in LA, it’s clear the nepo baby has no problem splitting time between both of her famous parents.
In 2022, Apple graduated from a prestigious high school in Santa Monica alongside Kate Hudson’s son Ryder Robinson.
The event was a star studded occasion, with Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Martin, Kate Hudson, Goldie Hawn and Blythe Danner all in attendance.
Despite the fact that Apple has grown up away from the spotlight, her unique upbringing has certainly made her comfortable rubbing shoulders with members of the celebrity style set.
Does Apple Martin Go To College?
After graduating high school, Gwyneth revealed to CBS Sunday Morning that Apple had already left the nest for college.
“I know it sounds nuts, but it feels almost as profound as giving birth,” Gwyneth said about the experience.
Neither Apple or her famous parents have confirmed exactly where she’s attending school—or what she’s majoring in—but given her recent fashion week adventures we know it’s quite the departure from the campus library.

Sadly, her profile is private, but given her new-found fame there is a chance she may one day make her account public.

Why Did Gwyneth Paltrow Name Her Apple Martin?
2023 may be the year Apple makes her front row debut, however it’s not the first time her name has come up in conversation. Specifically, the conversation surrounding Apple has been about why Gwyneth chose that name for her.
Since her birth in 2004, many have questioned what was so special about the fruit that would compel Gwyneth and Chris to opt for the unique name.
As it turns out, it was Chris’ doing all along.
In April 2022, Gwyneth took to Instagram to share the real meaning behind the name.
“Her dad came up with the name and I fell in love with it,” she explained. “I thought it was original and cool. I can’t imagine her being called anything else.”
Considering the bar for creative celebrity baby names has risen exponentially (we’re looking at you North West and X Æ A-XII), Apple is probably considered somewhat contrived now.
