It was the announcement we’d all been waiting for, ten years to be exact, when Andy Lee and Rebecca Harding confirmed they were (finally) engaged in May 2024.

The couple, who met at a Richmond cafe Lee was frequenting and Harding was working as a waitress, have become somewhat of Australian royalty since that fateful meet-cute.

“I was there writing stuff for the Logies, she was the waitress. She was attractive – but it was more her bubbly personality and how she wasn’t good at her job. She’d leave a table knowing about the person’s grandchildren or dog, but forget their order,” Lee told the Sydney Morning Herald of what drew him to her.

After dragging out his stay at the cafe as long as respectfully possible, Lee left but not before putting his email down on a napkin.

And, in a sweet nod to that first encounter, when the podcast host got down on one knee, he held out a napkin that read: ‘Will you marry me?’

The couple took to Instagram to share the proposal news, with a series of loved-up snaps and a caption that nodded to the ten-year wait, “People keep saying we’ve rushed into this but we don’t care what people say!”

Naturally, our eyes immediately went to the stunning emerald cut engagement ring.

Rebecca Harding’s Engagement Ring

Quick Facts

  • Estimated Carat Size: ~3–4 carats
  • Diamond Cut: Emerald cut
  • Metal/Setting: Yellow gold band with clean, classic prongs
  • Style: Timeless, refined, and sophisticated elegance

Harding’s engagement ring is a masterclass in timeless design. According to jewellery expert Brad Mucklow, Owner and Managing Director of Class A Jewellers, the showstopping piece features an emerald-cut diamond estimated between three to four carats.

“Rebecca Harding’s engagement ring is a beautiful example of timeless elegance,” Mucklow, tells marie claire Australia. “It appears to feature an approximately 3-4 carat emerald-cut diamond set in yellow gold.”

“The clean lines of the emerald cut give it a refined, sophisticated feel.”

Unlike brilliant cuts (like round or oval diamonds) designed for maximum sparkle, the step-cut facets of an emerald diamond create a sleek, “hall-of-mirrors” effect that showcases clarity and dramatic geometry.

While we may need to wait a few days following Lee and Harding’s wedding to see what band the paired with the stunning diamond, Muck says anyone wanting to recreate the design should consider square-cut diamonds or a cigar band style.

“For a wedding band, we’d love to see it paired with a square-cut diamond band, such as our Audrey Cushion, Nina Band , Sia Band or Odette Emerald, creating a beautiful, cohesive stack. For something a little more classic, a thick yellow gold cigar band would be equally stunning,” Mucklow says.
