They say the original is always the best, but French watchmaking and jewellery maison Piaget doesn’t subscribe to such ideas.
In 1990, Piaget introduced its Possession collection — a moment which marked a shift in the way the house merged design, gold and circular motion. Since then, the Possession collection has undergone a number of iterations: Possession Pop took on a joyous quality, transforming the circular motif into a spherical one and playing with vibrant coloured stones; Possession Decor Palace took cues from the Art Deco era, foregoing colour in favour of texture and streamlined silhouettes. Now, Vibrant Palace marks the latest addition to Piaget’s Possession oeuvre, and it draws inspiration from both its predecessors.

Centred on blue — a colour that is emblematic of La Côte-aux-Fées skies, where Georges-Edouard Piaget had his first workshop, and the French Riviera, another of the house’s inspirations — Possession Vibrant Palace reimagines the collection’s signature circular motion as a talisman.
There’s a decidedly more bohemian bent to the Vibrant Palace iteration of Possession, characterised by each piece’s uniqueness. Turquoise, sodalite and dumortierite feature on every piece in a hard stone mosaic, with the veining of the stones varying on every ring, necklace, bracelet and pair of earrings in the collection. Asymmetry defines the range, lending an eclecticism that is rarely found in the collections of high jewellery maisons, but then again, that unexpectedness is inherent to Piaget’s approach to jewellery and watchmaking. Charting back to the release of the “21st Century Collection” in 1969, where fine jewellery techniques were applied to the maison’s horological pursuits, pushing the boundaries of craftsmanship and design is nothing new for the house. Neither is its technical savoir-faire.

Adopting the delicate engraving that is a signature of the Decor Palace collection, Vibrant Palace sees the precious blue stones nestled within rose gold and accompanied by half-moon-set diamonds. Careful craftsmanship sees square and oval-shaped stones arranged in circular shapes across the pieces, nodding to the circular motion that lies at the heart of the Possession collection.
The timing of Piaget’s Possession Vibrant Palace collection is apt — with the advent of warmer weather, its oceanic associations make for the perfect addition to a summer jewellery wardrobe. Although, a piece that celebrates tradition, craftsmanship and playfulness ought to be worn all year round.
