Curating A Bridal Ear Stack Is Harder Than Finding The Dress, So I Turned To The Experts 

Curating the perfect ear stack has become an art form for the modern cool girl. Despite a multitude of gems now adorning ears everywhere, there’s a glaring gap in inspiration for bridal-specific stacks. Take it from me – a bride-to-be with three months and 10 piercings to coordinate.

A wedding ear stack requires another level of curation – one that honours self-expression while also proving timeless. As one of the most important dresses you’ll ever wear – or so they say – finding pieces that complement, rather than overpower, is pivotal.

So, where do you start? I asked the experts.

“The key is to think of your ear as a curated composition rather than a collection of individual earrings,” creative director and co-founder of By Lucia Jewellery, Teneille, tells marie claire Australia. “Start with one hero piece, whether that’s a statement drop, a modern pearl or a diamond stud and let everything else support it.”

Brad Mucklow, owner and manager of Class A jewellers, echoes the sentiment of a curated composition, recommending the pieces you select “gradually become more refined as they move up the ear.”

“Mixing textures, proportions and silhouettes creates dimension while still feeling beautifully cohesive.”

Drawing on her own experience as a bride, By Charlotte’s design director, Dalena Le, poses this question for your consideration: “How do you want to feel on the day?”

“Don’t overthink the answer. Keep it simplified to a few key words like ‘classic and timeless’ or ‘chic and cool.’ Everything cascades from there – even your earrings.” 

While each piece requires careful curation to create cohesion, it’s important to remember not every piece can make a statement.

“If every piercing is competing for attention, nothing really stands out,” Teneille warns.

Once you have your ‘hero piece’, Dalena says you can begin to build around “one design”, thinking of the whole picture, rather than individual pieces as you stack. 

“Whether that’s a pair of classic solitaire stud earrings or long pearl drop earrings, choose pieces and placements that complement them rather than an accumulation of earrings that you just ‘love.'”

If at this point, your curation process still feels like a clash of competing aesthetics, consider a few golden rules.

1. Keep It In The Family

If your stack is lacking cohesion, there may be too much happening. The key to combating clashing pieces is to “make sure each earring is in the same family (eg; diamond luxe look, or solid statement hoops),” Teneille says.

“Climbers are also a beautiful option for brides who want the effect of a curated stack with only one piercing. They create length and interest along the ear, and can make styling feel instantly more considered.” 

2. “Cascade And Taper”

Two words are all By Charlotte’s Delena says you need to remember: “Cascade and taper.

“Start with your hero piece. From there, build a stack that cascades and tapers up the ear by following with smaller, complementary designs. Simply stated, you want to go from biggest to smallest.” 

3. The Finer Details 

Once you’ve decided on defining features like your hero piece, material and gemstones, it’s time to focus on the details.

“We often follow a simple styling philosophy: begin with a statement, soften with texture, then finish with delicate detail,” Brad tells us. 

If there’s one bride the experts keep coming back to, it’s Dua Lipa.

“Her ear stack was so ‘her’ and really brought her personal effortless style into the day,” Teneille says, pointing to a broader shift she’s calling “quiet luxury for the ear.”

“Brides are embracing refined stacks that feel effortless rather than heavily styled. Yellow gold continues to have a strong presence, often paired with white diamonds for contrast.” Pearls are having a moment too, she adds, “evolving beyond classic strands, appearing in sculptural settings and organic silhouettes that feel fresh rather than traditional.”

Asymmetry is also having its moment — wearing a statement earring on one side, balanced with something more delicate on the other. “Perhaps the biggest shift is that brides are investing in jewellery that represents their personal style rather than the traditional bridal jewellery,” Teneille says.

Dalena keeps her trend call short and sharp: “Bold crystal and diamond solitaires are definitely of the now.”

Brad points to Dua Lipa’s wedding stack too, breaking down exactly why it worked: “She wore a statement round diamond stud in her first piercing, followed by three diamond huggies climbing the lobe and finishing with a final diamond huggie in the helix.”

On her other ear, the look was mirrored but not matched — “a delicate diamond drop and diamond huggie through her cartilage piercings, proving that asymmetry can feel incredibly elegant.”
