Most of us recognise Gisele Bündchen from the endless magazine spreads and runway shows that she was sprinkled across throughout the early 2000s.

But there’s one appearance by the Brazilian model that we’ll never forget—The Devil Wears PradaAnd now, Bündchen is explaining how and why she took on an acting role in the iconic fashion film.

In an interview with British Vogue, the now 41-year-old starred in the movie alongside Emily Blunt’s namesake character, as her friend and fellow Runway magazine colleague, Serena.

For the few moments we see Bündchen on screen, her character is leaning on Emily’s desk, gossiping about Andy before she walks in, sporting *those* Chanel boots. And in one of her few lines from the film, Bündchen’s character mutters, “You look good”, to Emily’s dismay.

And while her moments onscreen were iconic to say the least, it turns out that Bündchen almost didn’t do the role.

“I was flying from Los Angeles, and the lady who was writing this movie [Aline Brosh McKenna] came to me, and she said, ‘I’m doing this movie, Devil Wears Prada, and it’s all about fashion and everything. And I’m getting some models to act on it,” Bündchen explained.

“I’m like, ‘No, I’m not interested. I’m not gonna play a model, I do that every day’.”

Despite her hesitance to take on the role, thankfully, she changed her mind. As we now know, Bündchen did go on to accept the part that was written for her, even though she wasn’t exactly looking forward to the prospect of playing the role.

“I am not an actress; I never had an acting class,” she explained. “It was Meryl Streep, [who] I think is the best actress of all time. It was Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway; all of them [are] incredible… So I was like, okay, ‘I hope I don’t screw this up’.”

Of course, ever since the film was released and began to earn decades of popularity, Bündchen continues to win over new fans with her small role in the movie—and yes, that includes her own daughter, Vivian.

“It’s funny because my daughter… was [at] some friend’s house,” the model said. “She’s like, ‘Mum, I saw you in a movie. You were wearing glasses. Was that you?’… It was cute to have my daughter recognising me for the two seconds I was on screen.”
