Modern Family star Ariel Winter has opened up about her relationship with her mother, saying not speaking to her is “for the best.”
The 19-year-old told Hollywood Reporter she was thrown into the spotlight by her “controlling’ mother”, Chrystal Workman.
Ariel revealed that her ‘stage-mum’ mother sexualised her as a child, dressing her up in “the smallest miniskirts, sailor suits, low-cut things, the shortest dresses you’ve ever seen.”
“People thought I was 24 when I was 12,” she said, saying that it was her mum’s dream to be an actress, not her own.
“If there was ever going to be a nude scene when I was that age, my mother would have a thousand per cent said yes.”
Ariel, who hasn’t spoken to her mother since 2012, also revealed that food was “very, very restricted” and that she wasn’t allowed to have female friends as they were “competition.”
“I would order a couple lunches in my name so Ariel could eat one of them. I could tell she was hungry,” co-creator Steven Levitan affirmed.
