Doritos Are Seriously Launching A Chip Just For Women

Because apparently we don’t like to “lick our fingers generously”

This is not a joke: PepsiCo, the maker of Doritos and Lay’s, is developing a chip just for women.

We might not have equal pay, legal abortions or tax-free tampons, but we’ll soon have our very own line of chips. Lucky us.

In an interview with Freakonomics, CEO Indra Nooyi said she’s working on the women-friendly products because she believes women eat chips differently to men.

“As you watch a lot of the young guys eat the chips, they love their Doritos, and they lick their fingers with great glee, and when they reach the bottom of the bag they pour the little broken pieces into their mouth because they don’t want to lose that taste,” she explained.

“Women, I think, would love to do the same – but they don’t. They don’t like to crunch too loudly in public. And they don’t lick their fingers generously and they don’t like to pour the little broken pieces and the flavor into their mouth.”

Obviously Nooyi has never seen me eat nachos…

Nevertheless, she revealed PepsiCo is launching a range of “low-crunch” snacks that will have less of the “flavour [that] sticks on the fingers” and will fit into our purses more conveniently because “women love to carry a snack in their purse.”

She is right about that – I do love to carry snacks in my purse. But those snacks don’t need to be in pink packaging or less crunchy for me to eat them.

As one of the few female CEOs in the States, perhaps Nooyi should focus on encouraging more women to climb the corporate ranks instead of developing low-crunch “chips for her.” Surely having equal-opportunities is more important than equal-snacking.
