Oscar-winning actress Emma Thompson was honoured for her services to drama in the hallowed halls of Buckingham Palace today, but she didn’t exactly dress for the occasion: while we bow down before her bottle green Stella McCartney suit, we have a feeling her white sneakers wouldn’t have met with the Queen’s approval (perhaps that’s why Kensington Palace cropped them out of the below photo).

As Harper’s Bazaar UK points out, Thompson has history when it comes to eyebrow-raising footwear. In 2014, she walked barefoot on stage to accept a Golden Globe, carrying her Louboutin heels in one hand and a martini in the other (just one of the many reasons why we love her).

Her other accessories for today’s ceremony ticked all the right boxes: the 59-year-old pinned a badge from The Fawcett Society, which campaigns to end the gender pay gap, on her blazer lapel, along with a red poppy for Remembrance Day this Sunday.

She also used the occasion to sneak a kiss from Prince William. “I love Prince William,” she told PEOPLE. “I’ve known him since he was little, and we just sniggered at each other. I said, ‘I can’t kiss you, can I?’ And he said, ‘no, don’t! ‘”
“It’s really lovely because I’ve always loved the boys, and I’ve always been a long-term correspondent with their dad,” Thompson added. “It’s a very lovely feeling.”
All hail Dame Emma!
