Grieving Father Had Heartbreaking Message After His Son’s Suicide

13-year-old Daniel Fitzpatrick took his own life after bullying became too much

The father of the 13-year-old boy who committed suicide on August 11 has taken to Facebook with a heartbreaking message to his son’s bullies.

Daniel ‘Danny’ Fitzpatrick’s dad, who is also named Daniel, fights back the tears in a video posted over the weekend. He opens up about losing his son who was teased over his weight and grades.

“My son’s stories are out there for the world to see, and for the world to know the pain that he went through,” the devastated father says in the video which has over 149,500 views.

“I miss my son very much. No parent should have to bury their child. No child should have to go through what my son went through.”

“He and I went to the school, went to the principal. All I got was, and all he got was, ‘He’ll be fine. Is he in counseling? You have to try harder, Danny. … These things will pass. Children can be such horrible creatures.’ They ain’t creatures — they’re monsters. Disgusting little monsters.”

“To the parents of the boys that tormented my son: All I have to say is I hope you never, never have to feel what my family is going through right now,” Daniel said with tears in his eyes. “You get to hold your children every night and day for the rest of your lives and their natural lives. I don’t get that anymore. Your little monsters took that from me and my wife and his sisters.”

The 13-year-old, who was found by his sister in the attic of the family’s home, left a two-page suicide note, claiming the teachers “didn’t do anything” to help him.

A GoFundMe page has been set up in Danny’s memory to help give him a proper memorial and raise awareness for bullying. The page has already raised over US$98,770.
