Jennifer Lopez Reveals She Was Sexually Harassed By A Hollywood Director

"I was terrified"

Jennifer Lopez has shared her own #MeToo moment and opened up about the traumatic time she was sexually harassed by a Hollywood director.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, the singer and actor revealed the incident took place at the beginning of her film career.

“I haven’t been abused in the way some women have,” she said. “But have I been told by a director to take off my shirt and show my boobs? Yes, I have. But did I do it? No, I did not.”

Lopez, 48, said she was scared to speak up but knew the director’s behaviour needed to be stopped.

“When I did speak up, I was terrified,” she explained. “I remember my heart beating out of my chest, thinking, ‘What did I do? This man is hiring me!’ It was one of my first movies. But in my mind I knew the behavior was wrong. It could have gone either way for me. But I think ultimately the Bronx in me was like, ‘Nah, we’re not having it.’”

The On the Floor singer has been a vocal supporter of the #TimesUp movement and the need to address sexual harassment and abuse.

Lopez was one of almost 400 women who signed Time’s Up Letter of Solidarity that vowed to support victims in all industries.

In an emotional speech in Puerto Rico on the same day as the Golden Globes in January, she declared: “[A] lot of the women with #TimesUp are standing up for equality, to be treated equally, and for sexual harassment,” E Online reports.

“I stand here today in black doing the same from far away.”

Lopez added: “It’s the same thing with here in Puerto Rico we want to be treated equally.”
