Why Prince William And Kate Middleton Didn’t Attend Prince Charles’ Birthday Garden Party

For two very different reasons

While Meghan Markle and Prince Harry delayed their honeymoon in order to attend Prince Charles’ 70 birthday patronage garden party at Buckingham Palace – there were two very notable absences.

Where were Prince William and Kate Middleton?

Well Prince William was across town speaking today at a tribute to the Manchester Arena bombing victims which took place at Manchester Cathedral exactly one year ago.

22 people were killed in the bombing and hundreds injured when a bomb went off during an Ariana Grande concert.

William delivered a speech honouring the victims then placed a message on the Tree of Hope memorial.

Meanwhile Kate Middleton was off the hook as she is technically on maternity leave after welcoming son, Louis, on April 23.

“It is traditional for new royal mums to take a six-month break from official engagements,” royal biographer, Duncan Larcombe explains to “The wedding doesn’t count because it was a ‘family affair’ but other than that, she will pick and choose her engagements.”

The next time we will see Kate isn’t expected to be until the annual Trooping of the Colour, the Queen’s official birthday celebration, in June.
