Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are currently on a Royal Tour of Morocco, with the royal couple being hosted by the country’s ruler King Mohammed VI. The Royal visit has brought to the forefront the mystery of King Mohammed VI’s ‘missing’ wife Princess Lalla Salma. 

Princess Lalla Salma and King Mohammed VI wed in 2001, and despite the couple having two children and having regularly attended public events together in the years following their wedding, Princess Lalla Salma has not been seen for almost two years. The royal is now regularly referred to as Morocco’s “missing princess”. 

Rumours regarding the royals whereabouts have been speculated since her last public outing in 2017, and it is widely believed the royal couple have secretly divorced.

Some believe she has remained in Morocco but has been deliberately kept hidden, while other theories argue the royal is living in exile in the US, or on a Greek island with the couple’s young daughter. However, the palace has never released any official details, and Moroccan media do not report on the mystery.

The couple’s son, 15-year-old Crown Prince Moulay, is destined to be the future King and has remained in Morocco. As the British royals touched down in Casablanca on Saturday night, British officials said they had no idea if they would ask about Princess Lalla Salma, given their focus on gender equality during this visit.
