Kelly Family Speak Out About The Loss Of Their Two Sons

"How do you ever get over losing two children for absolutely nothing?”

Kathy and Ralph Kelly have been through unimaginable heartbreak in the past five years.

In 2012, their beloved 18-year-old son Thomas Kelly was killed in a senseless coward punch in Kings Cross.

Four years after Thomas’s tragic death, their other son, 19-year-old Stuart Kelly, took his own life in July 2016.

The grief is still as fresh as ever for the two parents, who have spoken to 60 Minutes’ Allison Langdon in an exclusive interview.

“How do you ever get over losing two children for absolutely nothing?” Kathy questioned with tears in her eyes.

“And he was just the funniest, most intelligent beautiful child you could ever have.”

Kathy explained her belief that her son Thomas would still be alive if not for the tragic coward punch incident.

“I think 100 per cent if Thomas had not been killed then Stuart would be here today, without a doubt,” she said.

As points out, the Kelly family have looked to the rugby league community for emotional support

“We just saw that voice getting back into the community and saying ‘you’re not alone, if you’re suffering from this’.” Ralph said.

“You’re not a burden on your family. Understand that you’re loved and that you’re an important person in society”.

You can watch the interview in full on 60 Minutes at 8.45pm on  Sunday on Channel 9.
