Last week it was announced that one of Australia’s own, the statuesque Elizabeth Debicki, had officially signed on to play Princess Diana in The Crown.
Debicki, 30, will take over from the current on-screen Diana, Emma Corrin, who is portraying the royal as a bride and young mother.
Stepping in for the fifth and sixth seasons (which have been confirmed to be the critically-acclaimed series’ last), Debicki will presumably be playing an older, post-divorce Diana. It has not been confirmed whether or not her portrayal will include the princess’ tragic death in 1997.
Of her casting, Debicki (a Melbourne native) gushed, “Princess Diana’s spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many. It is my true privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one.”
And, just like the Netflix hit’s previous choices, Debicki’s casting is spot-on. The Crown has made a name for itself by casting actors who not only embody the characters to an Emmy-winning degree, but also look uncannily like them.
It was immediately obvious that Debicki ticks all the boxes.
On top of already having one of Diana’s signatures, her iconic cropped blonde hair, Debicki and Princess Diana also share a range of similarities: large blue doe-eyes, sharp cheekbones, a defined jaw, and a strong, straight nose.
The only slight deviation, as far as we can see, is in their height. While Diana did stand at an impressive 5’10” (making her an inch taller than her 5’9″ husband Prince Charles — a point of contention in their marriage), Debicki is a very statuesque 6’3″.
Below, we take a look at every time Debicki proved she is the spitting image of Lady Di.
