We’re living in the era of the rom-com revival and we are absolutely here for it. Following on from the success of films like Wuthering Heights, The Materialists and Anyone But You, a new film starring Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner, named One Night Only, is coming for our screens and hearts.
Hailed as a sharp, modern romantic comedy, the film leans into the chaos and vulnerability of modern dating.
Set over the course of a single, high-stakes night in a lightly fictionalised New York City, the film follows two strangers—Allie (Barbaro) and Owen (Turner)—who collide at a moment when neither is quite where they hoped to be in love. And boy, can we relate.
Owen, freshly dumped and emotionally untethered, crosses paths with Allie, an earnest romantic still holding out for something meaningful. Their meet-cute sparks instantly, but this is no straightforward love story.
The synopsis reads: “a series of missteps and side quests complicate their night, keeping them apart. As they each race toward and away from each other across the city, they just might discover that the one thing they want most is closer than they think.”

Barbaro and Turner are joined by an impressive supporting cast including Maya Hawke, Julia Fox, King Princess, Ben Marshall, Ziwe, and screen icons Molly Ringwald and LeVar Burton.
If you needed any more convincing we’re in for yet another great rom-com, the team behind the film should do the trick. At the helm is Will Gluck, the filmmaker responsible for favourites like Anyone but You and Easy A.
He’s working from a screenplay by Travis Braun, with the film produced under his Olive Bridge Entertainment banner alongside Jacqueline Monetta, who also served as an executive producer on Anyone but You.
One Night Only is slated for release in cinemas on August 6th. We’ll have the popcorn ready.
