When wildly funny series, Overcompensating, burst onto our screens earlier this year audiences fell in love with the show and its lead/creator, Benito Skinner.
While his breakout acting role came in 2022 show, Queer As Folk, the comedian’s star was firmly cemented in the outrageous college drama of his own brilliant ideation.
In delightful news for fans, we’re set for more Benito and the rest of the Overcompensating ensemble with season two officially (finally) confirmed.
Will There Be A Season Two Of Overcompensating?
Four months on from Overcompensating’s premiere, fans have finally received the news they’ve been waiting for: season two is coming.
Skinner announced the news on his Instagram account, writing: “WE’RE OFFICIALLY GOING BACK 2 SCHOOL 😭😩”
He went on to add: “Thank you so much for all your insane love for this show 😭😭😭 And thank you for being so patient while Daddy’s been cooking season 2. One guy at Hudson News told me he’s watched it 7 times… that’s mental illness my love <3”
The carousel of photos accompanying the announcement included sweet behind-the-scenes snaps, outtakes from the show and hilarious DMs from fans demanding season two.
Season one of the show, which Skinner has revealed is loosely based on his own life and experiences, saw Benny attempt to navigate college life as a closeted gay man.
Benny manages to keep his sexuality a secret (save for his best friend, Carmen) until the finale when she accidentally outs him during a heated conversation after kissing his crush. So, with season two confirmed, there’s a lot of drama to come, that’s for sure.
Reflecting on writing the show, Skinner lamented to The Wrap that separating himself from the characters he’d come to love and putting them in difficult positions, proved difficult.
“It was hard at times, because in the room – I’m excited that people felt this way – but we would start to really love some of the characters, but then we would have to have them do awful things because we’re in college,” Skinner said. “They’re drunk, they’re insecure, they want to be loved.”
