Young adult television shows no signs of relinquishing its grip on audiences. As viewers continue to gravitate towards stories of first love, self-discovery and the bittersweet growing pains of adolescence, the genre has evolved into one of streaming’s most compelling spaces.
From The Summer I Turned Pretty to Off Campus, Elle and Every Year After, studios are increasingly investing in character-led dramas whose emotional resonance extends well beyond their teenage protagonists.
The latest arrival is Sterling Point, an eight-part mystery drama from writer-director Megan Park, with Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap also on board as executive producer. Equal parts sun-drenched coming-of-age story and simmering familial mystery, Sterling Point revels in classic YA tropes, including a juicy love triangle, as the backdrop for a story about identity, inheritance and the enduring weight of family secrets.
At the heart of the story is Annie Jacobson (Ella Rubin), an ambitious 17-year-old whose meticulously planned future begins to unravel after she is rejected from a prestigious summer programme. Still grappling with the loss of her mother, Annie’s world is upended when her estranged grandfather dies, leaving her and her twin brother, Connor (Keen Ruffalo), a mysterious inheritance: a secluded estate on a remote Canadian island and a quest to “go find her”.
Convinced her father has concealed crucial pieces of their family’s history after finding hidden letters in his safe, Annie secretly travels to Sterling Point in search of answers. What she discovers instead is an idyllic lakeside community, an eclectic group of new friends (who are remarkably self-sufficient for their age), and a mystery deeply rooted in her ever-blooming family tree.
While Sterling Point introduces an exciting ensemble of emerging talent, it is equally strengthened by a cast of established faces, including Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jay Duplass and Missi Pyle.

Ella Rubin
As Annie Jacobson
And an It-girl is born! Following standout appearances in The Idea of You alongside Anne Hathaway and Sean Baker’s acclaimed Anora, Sterling Point marks Rubin’s first major leading role — and she’s more than up to the task.
A true New Yorker, Rubin was raised on the Upper West Side and attended the Professional Children’s School, a renowned performing arts institution whose alumni include Scarlett Johansson, Sarah Jessica Parker and Uma Thurman.
Acting from a young age, Rubin made her screen debut opposite Hugh Grant in the 2014 romantic comedy The Rewrite, before appearing on Broadway in The Rose Tattoo. Since then, she has continued to build an impressive résumé with roles in The Chair, Gossip Girl, The Girl From Plainville, The Idea of You, and Anora.
Beyond acting, Rubin is also establishing herself as a rising presence in fashion, with a burgeoning relationship with Louis Vuitton. She attended the house’s Spring/Summer 2026 show and wore Louis Vuitton for the NYC premiere of Sterling Point, further cementing her growing influence both on screen and within the fashion world.

Born in Germany and raised in Atlanta, Amélie has developed a diverse body of work across film and television, spanning major studio productions, independent cinema and prestige series.
Her credits include The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, The Night Swim and One Mile: Chapter One. Most recently, she appeared in Eddington, sharing the screen with Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, Austin Butler and Pedro Pascal.
In Sterling Point, the 24-year-old plays Ramona, the estranged (and aloof) sister of Ella Rubin’s Annie.
Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie
As Ellis
Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie is a 33-year-old Canadian actor from Quebec who rose to prominence with his award-winning performance in A Colony (2018), earning a Canadian Screen Award for Best Supporting Actor.
Jacob has since appeared in projects including Falcon Lake (2023), Billie Blue (2023), Troubled Waters, and Premier Trio. Having started acting at 14, he worked mainly in French-language productions before expanding into English roles.
Jacob plays Ellis, a Sterling Point local who works at the marina alongside his father, Joe (played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan), in what marks his biggest role to date. Ellis soon finds himself caught up in a budding romance with Annie, adding another layer to the family’s complicated history — after all, Joe once had a romance of his own with Annie’s mother many years earlier.
Keen Ruffalo
As Connor
Keen Ruffalo stars as Connor, Annie’s affable twin brother, whose laid-back and extremly unserious outlook provides a natural contrast to her driven, curious nature. The role represents a significant step forward in Ruffalo’s acting career, introducing him to a much broader audience.
The son of acclaimed actor Mark Ruffalo and Sunrise Coigney, Keen grew up with a close connection to the world of film and television. He began acting at a young age, appearing in Begin Again (2013) before later featuring in projects including Thor: Ragnarok and Hal & Harper.
Bo Bragason
As Oona
Bo Bragason stars as Oona in Sterling Point, one of the island’s youngest residents and a key member of Annie’s new friendship group. With her head in the clouds and a knack for finding fun wherever she goes, Oona is endlessly charming and serves as the main love interest for Ramona.
UK audiences may recognise Bragason from King & Conqueror, where she stars as Gunhild alongside James Norton. She has also appeared in Disney+’s Renegade Nell, The Radleys and Three Girls, cementing her status as one of British television’s brightest rising talents.
Daniel Quinn-Toye
As Rory
Daniel Quinn-Toye plays Rory, a wealthy New Yorker from Annie’s old middle school and the son of Denise (Missi Pyle). Rory completes Sterling Point’s irresistible love triangle, initially sweeping Annie off her feet — much to Ellis’s dismay. In one particularly brutal moment, Rory kisses Annie while Ellis watches from outside, heartbroken and clutching the dog lamp he’d painstakingly restored because it once belonged to her mother.
The Sterling Point Family Tree
If you found yourself a little lost whenever the characters began untangling their various familial connections, you certainly weren’t alone. So, we’ve taken the liberty of mapping out how the main characters are connected.
When we first meet Annie, we learn that she and her twin brother, Connor, were adopted by Steven and Goldie, although Goldie passed away when the twins were still toddlers. We also learn that Ramona is Goldie’s biological daughter and was raised by her maternal grandfather, Gordon.
It is Gordon who essentially sets the story in motion. Through the letters he leaves behind, he reconnects his grandchildren with one another, ultimately prompting Annie to leave New York and travel to Canada in search of answers.
So who is Ramona’s biological father? For a time, the answer appears to be Joe (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
In Episode 3, Annie discovers an old cassette tape from her mother addressed to Joe, in which Goldie confesses her love for him. When Annie asks Joe about their history, he admits that the two dated when they were in high school.
But, as it turns out, Annie has heard only half the story (or in this case, tape).
When Joe’s son, Ellis (who also happens to be Annie’s love interest), plays the other side of the tape, he hears Goldie speaking to Joe about her baby, Ramona. The recording reveals that Goldie and Joe had been carrying on an affair while she was still married to Steven, while Joe, too, had a family of his own. The revelation casts Annie and Ellis’s fledgling relationship in a rather complicated light, given that their parents were once involved with one another and even planned to raise a child together.
Joe later confesses to Annie that he was with Goldie when an undiagnosed heart condition precipitated a medical crisis, forcing doctors to perform an emergency C-section to deliver Ramona, which Goldie did not survive.
Goldie’s father, Gordon, chose to raise Ramona himself, while Joe returned to his own life, carrying the secret of their affair with him and leaving Ramona in the dark.
After Gordon’s death, he appointed Joe as Ramona’s guardian. The arrangement leads Ellis and Ramona to joke that they are now siblings, although Ramona is not willing to accept Joe as her father given how long he lied to her.
Then, several episodes later, Ramona begins to wonder whether Joe is, in fact, her biological father at all. During a conversation with Annie in the bathroom, Annie casually mentions that she used to organise her father’s socks because he was colour-blind. It is an innocuous detail, but one that piques Ramona’s curiosity as she is also colour blind. This was foreshadowed throughout the season with her odd socks.
Determined to settle the question once and for all, Ramona convinces Steven to take a DNA test. When the results come back positive, the truth finally emerges: Steven is Ramona’s biological father.
So, where does that leave everyone? In the end, Ramona’s biological parents are Steven and Goldie, the same Steven and Goldie who adopted Annie and Connor.
Which means Ellis is not, after all, Ramona’s brother. And, perhaps most importantly for the tangled web of relationships at the heart of Sterling Point, he and Annie can continue their relationship without the spectre of an unexpectedly complicated family tree hanging over them.
