After three glorious seasons, The Summer I Turned Pretty is over. So, what do I do with myself now? The most likely answer is: watch it all over again while I wait for the newly announced movie to come out.
The past three seasons haven’t been an easy watch for either Team Jeremian or Team Conrad (although I’d argue more so in the case of the later).
Even I have to admit, as a day one Conrad supporter, that my heart ached just a little for the younger Fisher brother this season. It’s become clear in season three that Jere has been living in the shadow of his brother his entire life, and honestly, that’s tough.
But, the way Belly was able to forgive Jere’s spring break indiscretions but couldn’t forgive Conrad for pulling away while struggling to deal with his mother’s death? It’s beyond my comprehension.
If anything, season three has reaffirmed just how truly and deeply Conrad’s love runs for Belly from getting Laurel to attend the wedding to flying to the childhood flashbacks and, of course, flying to Paris to win her back.
Still, going into the finale with the knowledge author Jenny Han changed the ending from the original books had every TSITP fan on edge. So, what happened?
Who Does Belly Pick In ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Finale?
If you’ve somehow remained completely diconnected from the internet thus far, we’re delighted to tell you that at the end on The Summer I Turned Pretty finale, Belly chooses Conrad.
In the final episode we open with Conrad waiting on Belly’s doorstep in Paris, to surprise her for her 22nd birthday. She’s certainly surprised, if not reluctant, to play tour guide for the day but as the hours pass we see glimmers of the old Belly and Conrad.
As Belly warms to him, the chemistry between them sizzles once again until she invites him along to her birthday dinner. Naturally, her friends are inrtrigued and delighted by the presence of the man they’ve heard so much about – with the exception of Benito. The animosity between Conrad and Benito, honestly, had us kicking our feet and delivered one of the best lines of the season when Conrad quips that Benito may have taught Belly to ride a scooter, but her taught her how to ride a bike. An inuendo? Maybe, but we loved it either way.
The evening ends with the tension between Belly and Conrad boiling over and the two hooking up in a steamy romp that goes from the back of a taxi cab to the hallway and then her bedroom.
After, Belly freaks out and sends Conrad packing before realising her mistake and dramatically running through the train station to the Taylor Swift hit, ‘Out Of The Woods’, to FINALLY choose Conrad.
