Stephen DeMarco Hate Club assemble. Our time has come as the most-despised boyfriend in television history returns for Tell Me Lies season three.
Anyone who’s endured an unhealthy situationship can relate to the Stephen-Lucy dynamic, but the aspiring lawyer and master manipulator has truly redefined the term ‘toxic ex’ for two agonising seasons now. And we fear, it’s only about to get worse.
Then, there’s the matter of the periphery drama (that is just as juicy, we might add) of the on-again-off-again couple’s tangled friendship groups.
There are affairs with professors, car accidents covered up, tragic deaths, an abundance of secrets and, of course, a lot of lies.
After the explosive season two finale, we’re ready to dive straight back in.
Episodes one and two of the show were scheduled to drop at the same time on January 13 at 7pm AEDT, however Disney+ surprised fans by also releasing the third episode unexpectedly. Season two of Tell Me Lies closes with tragedy and betrayal rippling through the group. Drew dies from an accidental overdose after finally reconciling with Wrigley and our hearts are irreparably broken as a result.
In the aftermath, Stephen manipulates the situation by taking the blame for the anonymous letter from season one, securing Wrigley’s forgiveness.
Lucy, meanwhile, continues her destructive cycle, slipping back into Stephen’s orbit despite knowing the damage he causes, while Diana quietly frees herself from him and Bree is left reeling after realising her affair was never the secret she believed it to be.
The most explosive moment comes in the present-day timeline at Bree and Evan’s wedding. Just before she walks down the aisle, Bree receives an audio message from Stephen revealing that Evan slept with Lucy during college.
The season ends on a brutal cliffhanger as Bree, still in her wedding dress, comes face-to-face with Lucy — a final, calculated act of revenge from Stephen that proves the past in Tell Me Lies is never truly over.
