Margot Robbie’s next film, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, may look, at first glance, like your typical rom-com, but don’t be fooled. Starring alongside Colin Farell, who plays David, the love interest to Robbie’s character, Sarah, the duo first meet as two singles at a wedding.
Seems standard enough, right?
Well, that’s about where the romance tropes end and the “magical realism” as Farrell calls it, begins.
“It’s grounded in a world that we recognize, but it also is removed enough into the world of fantastical that it goes into these kinds of whimsical places,” the actor recently told Collider.
You see, some kind of mystical force brings Sarah and David together again after their meet-cute. And then, they walk through a magical door to a ‘defining moment of their past’.
Per the film synopsis, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey asks: “What if you could open a doorway and walk through it to re-live a defining moment from your past?”
On their big, beautiful journey, Sarah and David “get to re-live important moments from their respective pasts, illuminating how they got to where they are in the present…and possibly getting a chance to alter their futures.”
Further enticing us to tune is, is the impressively stacked cast including Jodie Turner-Smith, Lily Rabe, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Hamish Linklater.

Sony has confirmed the Australian release date for A Big Bold Beautiful Journey will fall on September 18th.
Where To Watch A Big Bold Beautiful Journey In Australia
The Kogonada-directed film will be released exclusively in cinemas come September. As for which streaming service will secure the rights to the film post-cinematic release, that’s yet to be determined.
