In Hollywood, it comes as no surprise that there’s an abundance of sprawling mansions and luxurious estates.
But once in a while, there’s one residence that comes along and shakes us to our core, not just because most of us will never be able to afford the extravagance, but because certain estates are simply mind-blowing (hello, Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo).
This time, our latest jaw drop is courtesy of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, who have reportedly gone into escrow for a house in Bel Air that’s worth, wait for it, USD $55 million (approximately AUD $74 million), according to TMZ.
Of course, our extensive binge-watching of Selling Sunset has taught us that the US-based term ‘escrow’ is a legal agreement that sees a third party temporarily hold the money or property until certain conditions are met. In that time, it allows the buyers to address any concerns with some even able to retract their purchase in this time.
So, while Lopez and Affleck’s latest purchase isn’t set in stone, it gives fans a fairly decent idea on what the couple have signed up for. And let us tell you, it’s quite something.
The perfect space for their blended family, Affleck and Lopez’s new home was originally built in the 1930s by renowned architect Paul Williams and boasts a whopping four kitchens, 10 bedrooms, 17 bathrooms and almost 20,000 square feet (approx. 1858 square metres) of living space for their five children combined.
In the grandiose home, rooms are astronomically sized and all look out onto the enormous backyard and guest house. The three-level residence also includes a movie theatre, a wine cellar and a marble master bathroom with a gold bathtub. When heading downstairs, the home also includes an impressive basement space, decked out with a full media room, gym and a private “security suite” where a full-time bodyguard can reside, as per Dirt.
As for the backyard, well, the opulence is far from over. A luxuriously-sized infinity-edged pool is surrounded by endless patios, fire pits, immaculate gardens and even, yes, a putting green—which makes sense, given that the home is located directly across the road from the main entrance to the notorious Bel Air Country Club that requests an annual membership of $250,000.
