Most of us struggle to get enough sleep (this is how to tell if you’re really not getting enough), but a new study has shed light on just which occupations are the most sleep-deprived.

Unsurprisingly, healthcare professionals appear the worst off (gruelling days and on-call nights would have that effect), reporting a meagre four hours and 15 minutes’ sleep on average. The police force came a close second, scraping together four hours and 30 minutes’ sleep a night, according to Harper’s Bazaar UK.

Journalists clocked in at around four hours 50 minutes (sigh) and hospitality workers report five hours a night.

The study, conducted by Hillarys, surveyed close to 5000 British people about their sleeping habits and profession.

On the other side of the spectrum, those in the hair and beauty industry somehow manage to get nine hours 40 minutes’ sleep a night (in other words, the dream – literally); telemarketers get eight hours 45; insurance workers 8 hours 20; retail professionals eight hours 15 and construction workers eight hours and 10 minutes on average.
